Our Story: The Weave of Two Worlds

Grass Cloth Wallpapers (GCW) was born from a collision of hemispheres and design disciplines. Fifteen years ago in London, Tory Manuel, shaped by the rugged, weaving heritage of Scotland, met Hayden Thompson, raised amidst the vibrant, architectural expanses of South Africa. Together, we realised our backgrounds formed a perfect partnership. Tory’s expertise lies in the micro-details of textile marketing and design —the tension of the warp and weft, the way natural fibres hold dye, and the beauty of organic inconsistencies. Hayden’s vision operates on the macro-level of architecture and interiors, focusing on how light, structure, and earthy textures make a room feel grounded. While Tory understood the intricate construction of a surface, Hayden understood how that surface could completely transform a space.
